How to hire finance influencers in India: SEBI, ASCI and what a creator may say

To hire finance influencers, first work out whether SEBI's October 2024 association rule reaches your brand, then cast educators and credentialed professionals who give no tips and promise no returns. Expect a premium of about 1.5x to 2x a baseline niche.

In short

  • Start with your own status. A SEBI-regulated person or its agent may not associate with unregistered people who give securities advice or claim returns (SEBI circular, 22 October 2024).
  • SEBI's rule attaches to the person, not the post. Check a creator's whole feed and every channel, not only the sponsored Reel.
  • ASCI's Addendum II expects SEBI registration with its number for stock and investment advice, and credentials such as an IRDAI licence, CA or CS for other financial advice, shown upfront.
  • Finance is priced at about 1.5x to 2x a baseline niche, so the same budget buys about half as many creators. Fund compliance review time as well as the fee.

To hire finance influencers in India, settle one question before you shortlist anyone: does SEBI's association rule reach your brand? If it does, your pool is creators who teach and explain, or who are registered, and who neither tip nor promise returns anywhere. If it does not, ASCI's rules still decide who may say what. Then vet the whole feed, write the contract around compliance, and budget for the most expensive niche on the rate card.

Finfluencer rules under SEBI explains the circular and its FAQs in depth, and our fintech and BFSI page maps the category. Here we follow a brand through the hiring process: who you are, whom to cast, how to vet, what to brief, what the contract needs and what it costs. For the channel see our guide to influencer marketing in India, and our performance influencer marketing service covers outcome-led deals.

Step 1: which brand are you?

Your brandDoes SEBI's association rule reach you? What follows
SEBI-registered intermediary, or an agent such as a mutual fund distributor or an authorised person of a brokerYes. You and your agents must not associate directly or indirectly with unregistered advice-givers or return-claimersVet every creator and every agency roster; ask counsel about payout design
Finance app that is not SEBI-regulated (payments, cards, loans)Not directlyASCI and consumer-protection rules apply; check whether a regulated partner passes terms down to you
Insurance or other non-securities productThe SEBI FAQ says a broker associating with someone promoting insurance who is engaged in a prohibited activity still breaches SEBI's regulationsIf a regulated partner is involved, apply the same vetting; ASCI expects credentials such as an IRDAI licence

SEBI's circular of 22 October 2024 says regulated persons and their agents must not associate, directly or indirectly, with anyone who gives securities advice or recommendations without registration or permission, or who claims returns or performance without permission. The FAQ circular of 29 January 2025, updated on 8 May 2026, defines association as money or money's worth, client referral or interaction of systems, and says the regulated entity is responsible to the extent of the association. The same update moved the look-back for using market price data in educational content from three months to thirty days. Read the sources: the circular and the FAQs. This is general information, not legal advice.

Four kinds of finance creator

CreatorMay doHire forCheck before booking
SEBI-registered professionalGive advice within the permissions heldContent where advice is the pointRegistration number on SEBI's own list; what the permission covers
Money educatorExplain concepts, fees and risks; give no tips and no return claimsApp walkthroughs, literacy contentWhether any script names a security or shows recent prices
CA, CS or licensed insurance professionalExplain tax, compliance, insuranceTax tools, insurance, loansCredential on screen; licence number where relevant
Personal-finance storytellerBudgeting, salary, saving habitsCards, UPI, savings appsGeneric content only; no securities talk

ASCI's Addendum II expects SEBI registration with the number for stock and investment advice, and suitable credentials such as an IRDAI licence, CA or CS for other financial advice, stated upfront: on screen, in the opening remark, at the top of a text post or at the start of audio. Its April 2025 update limited this to technical advice, so generic content needs no credential (ASCI). The Goat Agency and Kantar study found 95% of BFSI brands struggle to find the right creators, against about 83% overall (Campaign India), so start the search early.

Vetting: read the person, not the post

SEBI's rule attaches to the person, so a clean sponsored Reel does not help if the same creator posts tips elsewhere. Read ninety days of every channel the creator runs, and ask about the rest:

  • Tips, price targets or return claims, in any format, on any channel.
  • Links to tip groups, paid courses with income promises or "profit" screenshots.
  • Referral or affiliate payouts from brokers and trading platforms.
  • Betting promotions. ASCI found illegal betting was 54% of influencer violations in FY2025-26 (ASCI), so a finance creator with betting posts is a double red flag.
  • Agency rosters. If you hire through an agency, ask which finance creators it uses, because its roster is your association.

Verify registration numbers on the regulator's own lists and keep a dated copy. Our due diligence checklist and vetting checklist give the wider routine.

Briefing and scripts

Every script goes to compliance before it goes to the creator for filming, and again as a draft. Brief for:

  • Allowed: what the product does, fees, eligibility, how to sign up, and risks in the wording your compliance team requires.
  • Banned: returns promises, "guaranteed", past performance presented as a forecast, telling viewers to buy or sell, and naming securities with recent prices.
  • On screen: credential upfront, plus an ASCI label such as Advertisement or Sponsored. In a video of two minutes or more, the label stays up for the whole section that mentions the brand. Live sessions announce the partnership at the start and the end.
  • Sign-off: any script that names a security, shows a price or mentions returns needs compliance approval.

Lines that are allowed and lines that are not

These are illustrative, for your compliance team to adapt.

AllowedNot allowed
"The app shows every fee before you invest.""Invest here and double your money."
"Here is how KYC works, step by step.""This fund is up 40% this month, buy now."
"I track my savings goal in the app each week.""I made lakhs with this."
"Markets can fall as well as rise; read the offer documents.""Safe", "risk-free" or "guaranteed"
"This is education, not a recommendation."A named security with recent prices and a view on where it goes

Contract clauses for finance

ClauseHow to write it
CredentialsThe creator confirms registration or credentials with numbers, supplies copies and tells you of any change
No prohibited activityThe creator gives no unregistered advice and claims no returns, on any channel, for the term
TerminationImmediate termination if either is breached or a regulator acts; fee clawback worded by counsel
Script controlCompliance approves scripts and drafts; no edits after approval
Payment structureFlat fee for non-advisory content; per-signup payouts only after counsel's view
DataNo client lists or contact data shared with the creator
RecordsScript versions, credential copies and dated checks kept
Rights and exclusivityAd rights priced separately; exclusivity narrowed to the product type

A 2026 industry survey reported that only 39.3% of brands route influencer contracts through legal review (Campaign India). In finance, every contract should. See influencer contracts in India.

What it costs

Before the finance premium, the asking prices from our influencer rates guide look like this:

RoleFormatAsking price
Micro finance channelYouTube dedicated video / integration₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh / ₹15,000 to ₹60,000
Mid-tier finance channelYouTube dedicated video / integration₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh / ₹60,000 to ₹2.5 lakh
Micro storytellerInstagram Reel₹8,000 to ₹80,000
Finance professional on LinkedInPost, 30K to 100K followers₹40,000 to ₹2.4 lakh

One brand-deals guide puts finance at 1.5x to 2x a beauty baseline, another at a 60% to 120% premium, and a third says finance and tech cost two to three times lifestyle or comedy at the same audience size. A booking platform reports personal-finance asking prices up 30% to 60% in 2026. A rate guide quotes ₹5 lakh to ₹12 lakh for a dedicated review on a 500K-subscriber finance or tech channel. Our calculator's premium-niche option adds 50%. Ad rights add about 35% and GST 18%. Compliance review is a cost of its own, and an agency's fee, if any, is published at 15% to 25% of creator spend. Influencer fees by niche shows how premiums stack, and the cost calculator lets you test a mix.

Measuring a finance campaign

Count qualified outcomes: installs, completed KYC, first transaction and cost per first transaction. Views matter least. If you are SEBI-regulated, remember that the FAQ treats sharing client information as like a referral, so measure with your own aggregated tracking links and take counsel's view before integrating any creator tool with your systems (our reading of the interaction-of-systems limb). Our posts on influencer cost per acquisition and LTV to CAC show how to read cost against value.

How finance hiring fails

  • Checking only the sponsored post. The rule attaches to the person.
  • Paying per lead before asking counsel. It can turn a campaign into an association.
  • Marketing approves the script. Compliance must.
  • Ignoring the second channel. Tips often live there.

Finance and tech are the two premium niches, so how to hire tech YouTubers is worth reading for the units-and-embargo side of review deals. Frequently asked questions

How much do finance influencers charge in India?

Finance is the premium niche. One rate guide puts it at 1.5x to 2x a beauty baseline, another at a 60% to 120% premium, and a booking platform reports personal-finance asking prices up 30% to 60% in 2026. A micro YouTube dedicated video lists at ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh before the premium. See influencer fees by niche.

Can brands work with finfluencers in India?

Yes, with conditions. SEBI-regulated persons and their agents must not associate, directly or indirectly, with anyone who gives securities advice without registration or claims returns without permission. Investor education that does neither is not banned. Read our post on finfluencer rules under SEBI.

Do finance influencers need SEBI registration?

For advice on stocks and investments, ASCI's Addendum II expects SEBI registration with the number shown upfront. For other financial advice it expects suitable credentials such as an IRDAI licence, CA or CS. ASCI's April 2025 update exempts generic content. See our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer.

Can I pay a finance influencer per signup?

If you are a SEBI-regulated person or its agent, SEBI's FAQ treats money and client referrals as association, and sharing client information is similar to a referral. A per-signup payout is both money and a referral, so take counsel's view first. A flat fee for non-advisory content is the safer structure.

How do I check a finance influencer before hiring?

Read their whole feed and every channel for ninety days: tips, return claims, tip-channel links, betting promotions and course upsells. Collect registration or credential numbers and verify them on the regulator's own lists. Our due diligence checklist gives the full routine.

How long does a finance influencer campaign take to set up?

Our planning view is eight to ten weeks, because compliance review of contracts and scripts adds one to two weeks to the usual two to three. Start the whole-feed vetting early, since the pool of lawful finance creators is small. See regulated industries and influencer marketing.
