In short

  • Three example monthly programmes cost ₹1.9 lakh, ₹8.2 lakh and ₹22.1 lakh in creator fees for 20, 37 and 48 deliverables, each inside a published band.
  • A management fee and GST lift the monthly bill by 15% to 47.5%. The same ₹8.2 lakh programme is ₹9.4 to ₹12.1 lakh all-in.
  • A published ₹1.5 to ₹6 lakh retainer is 79% or more of a ₹1.9 lakh programme but 18% to 73% of an ₹8.2 lakh one, so retainers fit larger programmes.
  • A year is not twelve equal months. Three peak months at 1.5 times add 12.5% to an annual creator budget.

Influencer marketing in India costs about ₹1.5 to ₹3 lakh a month to start, ₹4 to ₹10 lakh a month to grow and ₹12 to ₹25 lakh or more a month at scale, in one agency's published benchmark, and those bands exclude the agency's fee. That is a guide, not a rule, so this post builds a month from the bottom: how many Reels, Story sets and creators each band buys at published rates, what a management fee and GST add, and which fee model fits which size.

Our guide to influencer marketing cost in India lists what creators charge per deliverable. Influencer marketing budget planning shows how to set a budget from a goal. This post answers the question between them: if you want creators posting every month, what does a month cost? For how a monthly programme fits the wider plan, read our complete guide to influencer marketing in India and the creator ambassador programmes service.

Three monthly programmes, priced from rates

These are hypothetical programmes built from the ranges behind our rates guide, not past campaigns. Each fee is a planning figure inside the published band for its tier and format, and each total sits inside one of the three published monthly bands.

StarterGrowthScale
Nano Reels at ₹5,0001010none
Micro Reels5 at ₹20,00012 at ₹25,00020 at ₹25,000
Micro Story sets at ₹8,00051220
Mid-tier Reels at ₹1,25,000none36
Macro Reels at ₹4,00,000nonenone2
Creator fees per month₹1,90,000₹8,21,000₹22,10,000
Deliverables and creators20 posts, 15 creators37 posts, 25 creators48 posts, 28 creators
Published band for the size₹1.5 to ₹3 lakh₹4 to ₹10 lakh₹12 to ₹25 lakh

Story sets come from the same micro creators who post the Reels, so they add deliverables but not creators. A starter month is mostly nano and micro creators. Growth adds three mid-tier voices, and scale adds macro names, which is where the bill jumps: two macro Reels are 36% of the creator fees from 4% of the deliverables.

What sits around the creator fees

Creator fees are the base. Published benchmarks add a management fee of 15% to 25% of creator spend and GST at 18% on invoices from registered creators and the agency. Our low case uses a 15% fee and no GST, and the high case a 25% fee with GST on everything.

StarterGrowthScale
Creator fees₹1,90,000₹8,21,000₹22,10,000
Management fee, 15% to 25%₹28,500 to ₹47,500₹1,23,150 to ₹2,05,250₹3,31,500 to ₹5,52,500
All-in, low to high₹2.19 to ₹2.80 lakh₹9.44 to ₹12.11 lakh₹25.42 to ₹32.60 lakh

The high case is 1.475 times the fees, so a monthly programme budgeted from the Reel prices alone is short by up to 47.5%. Ad media, product, shoots and any usage rights are extra: whitelisting is priced at 20% to 50% per 30 days in one card, so rights on the best posts renew every month. Read influencer whitelisting cost in India for that arithmetic. A reserve of about 10% of creator fees, our own habit and not a benchmark, covers a creator who drops out.

Which fee model fits which size

The published retainer is ₹1.5 to ₹6 lakh a month for 15 to 40 activations, and the published percentage fee is 15% to 25% of creator spend. They behave differently as a programme grows.

Starter (₹1.9 lakh)Growth (₹8.21 lakh)Scale (₹22.1 lakh)
Retainer floor of ₹1.5 lakh as a share of creator fees79%18%7%
Retainer ceiling of ₹6 lakh as a share of creator fees316%73%27%
A 20% fee in rupees₹38,000₹1,64,200₹4,42,000

This is our arithmetic on one agency's figures, so treat it as a pattern. At starter size a retainer costs several times what a percentage would, which matches the same guide's warning that overhead eats most of a programme below about ₹2 lakh a month. At growth size the retainer floor sits near the percentage band. At scale a ₹6 lakh retainer is above the 25% ceiling, so you should expect volume to pull the price down. Ask for a fixed project fee while you are small, a retainer once the monthly volume is steady, and a quote on each model. Our retainer vs project pricing post helps you choose, and our pricing page shows how we bill retainers: monthly, in advance.

A month on the calendar

Here is the growth programme as a month, with the cash timing finance will ask about. On our typical terms, half the creator fees are paid when creators are booked and the balance when posts go live.

WeekWhat happensCash out
1Briefs go to the month's 25 creators, units ship, early drafts are approvedHalf of the creator fees: ₹4,10,500
2The 12 micro Reels and 10 nano Reels go live, Story sets on the same daysBalance for those creators as posts go live
3The 3 mid-tier Reels go live, a day-7 read picks the posts worth ad rightsBalance for the mid-tier creators; any rights fee
4Month report, rebook or drop each creator, brief next monthManagement fee billed in advance for the next month

Because the first half is paid before anything is live, a month's cash need is front-loaded: about ₹4.1 lakh leaves before the first post, and a retainer is invoiced a month ahead. Tell your finance team the shape, not only the total.

Month one is not month six

Some costs recur, and some belong to the first month or to each new creator. Annualising month one overstates the programme.

A 2025 study carried by Campaign India found 72% of brands prefer long-term partnerships. We found no published retainer discount, so the saving from a long arrangement comes from what you negotiate: a locked rate and fewer onboarding repeats. Month three is the time to drop the bottom third of creators by cost per result and rebook the rest.

A year is not twelve equal months

Take the growth programme at ₹8.21 lakh a month. Twelve flat months is ₹98.52 lakh in creator fees. Now run nine ordinary months and three peak months at 1.5 times the base, ₹12.32 lakh each. The year costs ₹1.11 crore, which is 12.5% more. At a 20% fee and 18% GST, that is about ₹1.57 crore against ₹1.40 crore for the flat year. The 1.5 times is an assumption for the example, so replace it with your sales calendar.

Spend bunches at peaks. A 2025 vendor report, carried by The Tribune as a paid press release, calls Diwali the peak season and says most brands plan two weeks to a month ahead. An influencer-data platform's report, covered by MediaNews4u, puts IPL influencer spend at about ₹250 crore in 2023 and about ₹550 crore in 2025. We found no published festive price premium, so hold a reserve and brief early rather than assuming creators will hold their rates. See our festive calendar for influencer marketing.

Keeping the monthly number steady

  • Fix the roster's price, not only its size. A rate lock for three to six months protects the budget from mid-programme rises, and one booking platform reports 2026 fee rises of 40% to 70% for AI and tech creators and 5% to 15% for food and travel creators.
  • Split the month into base and burst. Put about two thirds of an average month into the steady roster and leave a third for tests, peaks and replacements. That split is our planning habit, not a benchmark.
  • Review each month on cost per result. Use influencer marketing KPIs and one monthly report, as in our campaign report template.
  • Cut by lever, not across the board. How to reduce influencer marketing costs ranks the levers by rupees saved.

Frequently asked questions

How much does influencer marketing cost per month in India?

One agency's published benchmark puts monthly creator budgets at ₹1.5 to ₹3 lakh for a starter programme, ₹4 to ₹10 lakh for growth and ₹12 to ₹25 lakh or more at scale, before agency fees. Our three example programmes cost ₹1.9 lakh, ₹8.2 lakh and ₹22.1 lakh in creator fees. See the influencer rates guide.

What is a typical monthly retainer for an influencer marketing agency?

One agency's published figure is ₹1.5 to ₹6 lakh a month for 15 to 40 activations, with creator fees billed separately, and a second agency repeats it. Treat it as one view. At small programmes it can exceed the creator spend, so ask for a fixed project fee or a percentage instead. See influencer agency fees in India.

Is an always-on influencer programme cheaper per month than campaigns?

Not necessarily cheaper per month, but cheaper per result once you keep the creators that work and lock their rates for three to six months. A campaign concentrates spend into weeks. Always-on spreads it. Most brands pay for a steady base plus bursts at peaks. See always-on vs campaign influencer marketing.

How much should I add to the creator budget for a monthly programme?

Add a management fee, which published benchmarks put at 15% to 25% of creator spend, GST at 18% on registered creators and the agency, and a reserve of about 10%. Ad media and product are extra. The three example programmes here come to 1.15 to 1.48 times creator fees before reserve. Use the influencer cost calculator to check yours.

Can I run influencer marketing on less than ₹1.5 lakh a month?

Yes. The ₹1.5 lakh figure is one agency's starter band, and the same guide says overhead eats most of an agency-run programme below about ₹2 lakh a month. A brand running it directly can start with a pilot of 10 to 15 nano and micro creators. See influencer marketing cost for small business.

Do influencer costs rise in festive months?

Spend does. One 2025 vendor report carried as a press release calls Diwali the peak season and says most brands plan two weeks to a month ahead. We found no published festive price premium, but creators book up and lead time shrinks. Plan a peak month at about 1.5 times the base, and brief early. See sale season influencer marketing.
