In short
- Gujarat is not only Ahmedabad and Surat: Saurashtra, Kutch and central Gujarat speak differently, and Kachchhi is treated by Britannica as a distinct language close to Gujarati.
- Alcohol is prohibited across Gujarat outside the GIFT City exemption, so keep drinks out of Gujarat-facing creator content for restaurants, hotels, events and lifestyle brands.
- Rann Utsav's tent city runs 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, and Navratri runs 30 September to 9 October 2027: plan travel in winter and retail around Garba.
- An eight-week EV two-wheeler dealer test in Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat costs about ₹6.3 lakh in creator fees, before management fee, GST and creator ads.
Gujarat rewards brands that cast Gujarati-first creators by region, keep alcohol out of their content in a state that prohibits it, and plan two peaks: Navratri in autumn and Rann Utsav in winter. For influencer marketing in Gujarat, start with one language, one region and a small budget, and widen where cost per result holds. The overview is in our guide to influencer marketing in India, and the casting side is covered by our regional influencer marketing service.
Our Ahmedabad and Surat pages cover those cities, including Navratri, Jain and vegetarian briefs, diamonds and textiles. This post covers the state around them. Related playbooks are Maharashtra and Punjab.
Four Gujarats, and their Gujarati
Britannica notes that dialect differences in Gujarati overlap with religion, caste, ethnicity, profession and education, so sharp dialect boundaries cannot be drawn (Britannica). Its Kachchhi entry calls Kathiawari a dialect of Gujarati, and treats Kachchhi as a distinct Indo-Aryan language that shares a great deal with Gujarati (Britannica). We take two lessons from that. Do not cast on one Gujarati voice. And let each creator's audience data, not a map, decide the cohort.
Our working casting map is below. It is not an official division.
| Region | Core towns | Casting note |
|---|---|---|
| North and central | Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand | See Ahmedabad; Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara audiences overlap, so read each creator's insights |
| Saurashtra | Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar | Kathiawadi speech; check that a creator's audience actually lives here |
| Kutch | Bhuj, Dhordo | Kachchhi and Gujarati; tourism and craft content |
| South Gujarat | Surat, Valsad, Bharuch | See Surat; mixed communities |
A vendor survey reported by Campaign India puts engagement at 3.5% to 4.5% in tier 2 cities against 3% to 4% in metros, and typical campaign cost at ₹1.3 to ₹1.6 lakh against ₹3.8 to ₹4.5 lakh. Those are vendor estimates, not sales, but they are a reason to test Rajkot and Vadodara, not only the two big cities. Our guide to tier 2 and tier 3 cities shows how to compare them.
The prohibition rule and what it means for content
Gujarat is a prohibition state under the Gujarat Prohibition Act, 1949. The state has eased the rule inside GIFT City, first in December 2023 and again in 2025, to let permit holders and, since December 2025, visitors with a valid photo ID drink at designated hotels and restaurants there (The Week). Statewide prohibition remains in force outside that campus. We apply three working rules.
- No alcohol in Gujarat-facing creator content. That covers restaurants, hotels, event venues, cafés and lifestyle brands, even where the creator is not drinking.
- Do not extend an alcohol brand's name to a social post. A water, music or merchandise extension used as a stand-in raises the surrogate-advertising question; read our guide to surrogate advertising and influencers.
- Check menus and props before a shoot. A bar shelf behind a creator is the commonest accident.
This is general information, not legal advice. For a Gujarat-wide launch with a hospitality partner, ask your legal team to review the shot list.
Winter in Kutch, autumn in Garba
Gujarat has two seasonal peaks that belong to different brands. In autumn, Navratri and Garba lead retail; UNESCO inscribed Garba of Gujarat on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2023 (UNESCO), and our Ahmedabad page and Navratri and Durga Puja guide cover the content phases. In winter, the Rann Utsav tent city at Dhordo in Kutch runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, and the busiest periods are around each full moon, listed as 23 to 25 November, 22 to 24 December, 21 to 23 January and 19 to 21 February (Outlook Traveller).
Rann Utsav suits travel, hospitality, camera, phone and outdoor apparel brands. It is less useful for a brand with no reason to be in Kutch. If you go, agree the organiser's rules on drones, vehicles and branded shoots before a creator visit, and ask creators to show the real itinerary and the real price, not a staged one.

Platforms, creators and buyers
No published source we trust splits platform use for Gujarat, so we test: Gujarati YouTube for long food, travel and business content, Instagram Reels for youth, comedy and fashion, and creator ads to push the best post to one region at a time. The creator types we cast most often for Gujarat briefs are below.
| Creator type | Format | Fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gujarati comedy and family skits | Short skit, Reel | Apps, FMCG, local retail | Humour does not translate; write in Gujarati from the start |
| Food and snack | Recipe Reel, trail, YouTube integration | Packaged snacks, kitchen goods, delivery | Many households avoid onion and garlic at times; see the Ahmedabad brief |
| Travel and heritage | Itinerary Reel, vlog | Stays, cabs, camera, apparel | Real prices and itineraries; respect at pilgrimage sites |
| Business and money | Explainer, YouTube integration | Fintech, B2B, tools | ASCI and SEBI rules; priced at a premium, so budget for it |
| Auto and tech | Test ride, review | EV, phones, appliances | Claims must match what you can prove |
Business and money creators carry premium pricing in our rates data, and those who discuss investing must follow ASCI and SEBI rules; see fintech influencer marketing.
For buyers, pull orders by district and split Saurashtra from central and south Gujarat. Then ask what proof each needs. Our hypotheses, not findings: a demonstration for family purchases, a clear price for merchants, and a local creator's word for smaller towns.
Reading results region by region
Gujarat's two big cities can hide the rest of the state in an average. Keep the offer, landing page and code scheme identical across regions, prefix codes by region (for example BRAND-SAU for Saurashtra and BRAND-SG for south Gujarat), and read each cohort by its median creator, not the best one.
| Signal | At day 7 | At day 30 |
|---|---|---|
| Attention | Median views and saves per 1,000 views | Whether views held after the first week |
| Intent | Link clicks and comment questions | Code redemptions or bookings |
| Cost | Cost per click by cohort | Cost per result by cohort |
| Decision | Fix the brief if clicks lag | Scale, hold or stop each region |
Scale a region when its median cost per result beats your target, hold when it is close, and stop when it misses twice; those thresholds are our practice, not a published norm. Our guide to how to measure influencer marketing ROI shows the full method, and how many influencers you need explains why six per cohort is the floor.
Writing for Gujarati viewers
Review steps are in our regional campaign guide. Three points are specific to Gujarat.
Gujarati humour is hard to carry across languages, so write the idea and the fixed claims, and let a Gujarati creator write the lines from the start. Mark the region in the brief, because Saurashtra and south Gujarat speech differ, and a script suits one of them better than the other.
Put the offer, code and disclosure label on screen in Gujarati. ASCI allows English or the language of the ad, provided the label is upfront, prominent and easy to understand (ASCI). Render the brand name in Gujarati script and have a native reader confirm it, then pay on a native reviewer's sign-off of the final video. Check the food, drink and prop list for the prohibition and vegetarian points above before anyone films.
What a Gujarat campaign costs
We found no separate Gujarat rate card, so the asking prices in our rates guide apply.
| Deliverable | Typical range per creator |
|---|---|
| Nano Reel | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 |
| Micro Reel | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 |
| Micro Story set | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 |
| Micro YouTube dedicated video | ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh |
Gujarat's business and money creators change the arithmetic. Our rates data adds 50 percent for premium niches such as finance, and published guides put finance and tech creators at 1.3 to 2 times a lifestyle baseline. A micro Reel quoted at ₹30,000 from a lifestyle creator therefore becomes about ₹45,000 from a business creator with the same audience size. That can be worth paying if the buyer is a merchant or an investor, and wasteful if the product is a snack. Decide the buyer first, and the creator type second.
Rights for creator ads add about 35 percent in our planning, and published benchmarks suggest management fees of 15 to 25 percent of creator spend. The cost calculator builds the sum.
Where Gujarat plans go wrong
A single Gujarat list is the first mistake, since Saurashtra, Kutch, central and south Gujarat each need a voice of their own. A bar shelf in the background of a restaurant or lifestyle shoot is the commonest accident in a prohibition state. Casting Rann Utsav for a brand with no reason to be in Kutch looks staged. A Hindi script for a Gujarati audience in a mass category is a test skipped, and a Gujarati reviewer left out means a wrong claim in a paid post is yours.
To see which Gujarati creators we would shortlist and which region to start with, send us a brief. We reply within two working hours, and the creator plan follows within 48 hours of the brief call.

Frequently asked questions
Do brands need Gujarati creators for Gujarat campaigns?
Can influencer content show alcohol in Gujarat?
Treat it as a no. Gujarat has prohibition under the Gujarat Prohibition Act, 1949, and the GIFT City exemption does not change that for the rest of the state. Keep alcohol out of Gujarat-facing creator content, and read our guide to surrogate advertising before extending an alcohol brand's name.
When is Rann Utsav and which brands should use it?
The 2026-27 tent city at Dhordo runs 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, with the busiest periods around each full moon. Travel, hospitality, camera, phone and outdoor apparel brands fit best. Check the organiser's rules on drones, vehicles and branded shoots before a creator visit.
Which festivals matter most for Gujarat brand campaigns?
Uttarayan around 14 and 15 January 2027, Rath Yatra on 5 July, Navratri from 30 September to 9 October, Diwali on 29 October and the Gujarati New Year that follows. Rann Utsav covers the winter travel season. Confirm dates against the state holiday list.
How much does influencer marketing cost in Gujarat?
Creator fees follow national asking prices: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh for a micro YouTube dedicated video. Add rights, ads, GST and a management fee. See the influencer rates guide.
Are finance creators allowed to promote investing products in Gujarat?
The same rules apply as anywhere in India. ASCI requires SEBI registration and its number for creators discussing stocks and investments, and SEBI restricts how regulated entities associate with unregistered advisers. Read our finfluencer rules guide. This is general information, not legal advice.
