In short
- The main evening of Chhath is Sunday 15 November 2026 and Thursday 4 November 2027. It follows Diwali by seven days in 2026 and six in 2027.
- Sell the preparation, the journey home and the kitchen. Keep products out of the ghat, the arghya and the fast, and give creators no fasting advice.
- Cast Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi speakers from Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, plus migrants in Delhi and Mumbai, and check audience location. The two groups shop differently.
- Only Stories and creator ads on existing content are realistic for 2026. For 2027, brief by 6 September; the example plan costs about ₹9.6 to 10.3 lakh before GST.
Chhath Puja influencer campaigns work when the brand stays on the shore. The festival is a four-day fast in which devotees offer arghya to the setting and rising sun at a river, pond or home tank, and nothing about it invites a product. What does invite a brand is everything around it: the shopping list, the thekua, the new clothes, the cleaning and the long journey home. This post is the Chhath slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, with eleven ideas, 2026 and 2027 dates, a plan, budgets and the rules of respect.
It sits at the end of the autumn run in the festival marketing calendar for influencers. Our Uttar Pradesh and Bihar playbook covers the market; this post goes one level deeper into the festival itself.
Chhath dates for 2026 and 2027
| Day | 2026 | 2027 | What happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nahay Khay | Friday 13 Nov | Tuesday 2 Nov | The devotee bathes and eats one simple meal |
| Kharna | Saturday 14 Nov | Wednesday 3 Nov | The fast begins; kheer is shared after sunset |
| Sandhya Arghya (main day) | Sunday 15 Nov | Thursday 4 Nov | Offering to the setting sun |
| Usha Arghya | Monday 16 Nov | Friday 5 Nov | Offering to the rising sun; the fast ends |
Drik Panchang lists the main day as Thursday 4 November 2027, with sunset at 5:34 pm in New Delhi, and its 2026 page gives Sunday 15 November, with sunset at 5:28 pm. The other three days follow from the four-day structure described by Dekho Panchang, and are our arithmetic. Timings differ by city.
Diwali is on 8 November 2026 and 29 October 2027, so Chhath follows by seven days in 2026 and six in 2027. Bhai Dooj on 31 October 2027 sits in between, and the wedding season reopens on 10 November. See our Diwali playbook and wedding season post.
What is still possible for 2026
As of Sunday 1 November 2026 the main day is two weeks away. A fresh creator programme cannot be briefed, shot and approved in two weeks without rush fees. Two things are still possible: creator ads on relevant content you already own, which cost nothing in new shoots, and Stories from existing creator relationships, using the samagri and journey ideas below. A rush under 48 hours adds 25 to 40 percent in published rate cards. Use 2026 to learn what your audience asks for, and brief 2027 in September.
What audiences do online
In our experience the festival has a clear shape. For two or three weeks before, households clean their homes thoroughly, plan the samagri, which includes bamboo baskets, sugarcane, fruit, thekua and earthen lamps, and shop for new clothes. Many households avoid onion, garlic and non-vegetarian food during the festival. Travel is the loudest topic: train and bus tickets sell out early, and migrants plan the journey home.
During the four days the feed turns devotional. Creators from observing families post short Stories of the ghat, the lamps and the songs, and often step back from sponsored content altogether. Afterwards come the return journey and the photographs.
There are two audiences. Households in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh keep it at home. Migrants in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and other metros keep it from far, and for them the journey, the video call and the small ghat on a society terrace are the story. Briefs should name which one a creator speaks to.
Eleven Chhath campaign ideas
Preparation
- Thekua from scratch. Bhojpuri and Maithili food creators make thekua with wheat flour, jaggery and ghee, following their own family's method. Many families do not taste prasad before the offering, so brief creators to follow their household's practice. Suits staples, jaggery and ghee; see FMCG, food and beverage.
- The samagri list. A carousel and a Reel of what to buy, at what quantity and price, from soop to sugarcane. Suits marketplaces and quick commerce brands.
- New cotton for the festival. Fashion creators show sarees, dhotis and kurtas at set budgets; see fashion and apparel.
- The clean-home reset. Home creators clean before the festival, with a checklist and a timetable. Suits home-care and appliance brands.
- Before the ghat. Local creators join a neighbourhood or municipal clean-up before the festival, with no brand banners. See our cause marketing playbook.
The journey
- Ghar wapsi. Creators film the trip home: the ticket hunt, the bag, the gifts and the first meal. Suits travel, rail-booking, mobile and snack brands.
- Chhath from far. Migrant creators build a small ghat for their housing society, or keep the fast without one, and call home. Suits telecom, courier and grocery delivery.
- Gifts from the city. Gifting creators send hampers home in set price bands; see gifting and seeding.
Voice and culture
- The song, with credit. Folk singers perform traditional Chhath songs. Recorded versions are copyrighted even when the song is old; see music copyright in influencer content.
- My first Chhath. A young woman observes for the first time with her mother or mother-in-law guiding. No product at any ritual moment.
- Chhath explained for neighbours. A creator from the community explains the festival to colleagues and neighbours who do not know it, and how to greet a family at prasad time. Brand-light and warmly received.
Ideas 6 and 7 are the two brands underbuy. The journey is where a metro-based audience feels the festival, and a brand can be useful there without touching the ritual.
Casting and briefing
- Language, not just Hindi. Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi are different, and a Maithili family notices a Bhojpuri word. Ask each creator for their language and district.
- Check audience location. A Patna creator may have mostly Delhi followers, and the reverse. Ask for screenshots; see how to read audience insights.
- Mix the towns. Smaller towns carry trust; metros carry volume. Our regional influencer marketing work builds one cohort for each.
- Send the brief in Hindi and the local language. The claims sheet goes in both.
- Seed early. Kits and food reach smaller towns slowly; see product seeding logistics.

What to measure
Count orders and code or QR redemptions by creator, by town and by metro cohort, saves on the samagri and thekua posts, and link taps on the travel content. For staples, compare units sold in the week before Chhath with a normal week. Log comments that object to tone: they are the earliest sign that a post has crossed from help into intrusion.
Budget notes
Use the ranges in our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 and a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Regional creators often sit in the lower half of each band, and one published guide says regional-language YouTube channels are 40 to 60 percent cheaper than Hindi or English ones. Treat that as a single source about YouTube, not as a rule for Reels.
Add about 35 percent for usage rights in our plans, and expect creator-ad rights to add 60 to 120 percent over organic in one published guide, with media separate. Plan one series price for creators who post across several days. Management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks. Try the mix in our cost calculator.
Sensitivities and things to avoid
- No products at the ghat. Keep logos, banners and product shots away from the arghya, the water and the baskets.
- No fasting advice. The main fast is often kept for about 36 hours without food or water. Advice is health advice, and brands should not ask creators to give it.
- Ask before filming a devotee. Many observers are women, and some are men. Film only with consent, and never at the moment of the offering unless the family asks.
- No alcohol or non-vegetarian food in frame. Keep both out of festival content and away from your brand's posts that week.
- Mind the details. Keep footwear out of frame near the puja area, and do not use the festival's songs without a licence.
- No accent jokes. Migrant humour about Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh is a stereotype that audiences from those regions know well.
- Do not use river pollution as a hook. It makes a sacred day into an argument and invites a political thread.
Disclosure, labels and tax
Under the ASCI influencer guidelines, money, free products, gifts and barter are a material connection, and the label must be upfront and prominent. A Story needs it on the visual, a Reel of 15 seconds or less needs it on screen for at least 3 seconds, and the label may be in the language of the ad, so a Bhojpuri post can carry a label an ordinary viewer understands. The brand shares responsibility and must back claims such as "pure ghee" or "no preservatives"; see food claims and FSSAI rules.
Kept gifts count towards the ₹20,000 yearly threshold for 10 percent TDS under section 194R, with exemptions for some small individual creators; see TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
When is Chhath Puja in 2026 and 2027?
For New Delhi, Drik Panchang lists the main Chhath day, the evening arghya, on Sunday 15 November 2026 and Thursday 4 November 2027. Because the festival runs four days, Nahay Khay is two days earlier and Usha Arghya the morning after. Diwali is on 8 November 2026 and 29 October 2027. Dates and sunset times differ by city, so confirm locally.
Can a brand run an influencer campaign around Chhath?
Yes, if it sells the preparation and the journey, not the ritual. Samagri lists, thekua ingredients, new clothes, home cleaning and travel home are all fair ground. Keep logos and offers away from the arghya and the ghat. Our regional influencer marketing service casts by language and community.
Which creators work best for Chhath campaigns?
Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi food, family and home creators from Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, plus creators from those communities living in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and other metros. Folk singers help for music. Most work happens at micro and nano level in smaller towns. See how to find regional language creators.
Can creators give advice about the Chhath fast?
No. The main fast is often kept without food or water for about 36 hours, and advice on it is health advice. ASCI expects qualifications to be stated upfront when technical health advice is given. Brief creators to show their own family's practice and nothing else. See health influencer rules.
How early should we plan a Chhath influencer campaign?
Ten weeks for a full programme. For 4 November 2027, brief on Monday 6 September, book creators by 13 September and approve drafts by 18 October. Navratri, Dussehra, the cricket World Cup and Diwali on 29 October all crowd the weeks before, so regional creators book out early.
How much does a Chhath influencer campaign cost?
Published rates are about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Regional creators often sit lower in each band. Add usage rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. See the influencer rates guide.
