In short
- Run four phases: seed units four to six weeks out, tease for two weeks, post in one two-hour window on launch day, then keep follow-up reviews coming for a month.
- Seeding is cheap and useful: in our example plan, 30 nano creators cost under 4 percent of creator fees and expose the claim that will not survive.
- The two Indian launches below that published totals average roughly 47,000 to 61,000 views per creator (our arithmetic). Plan reach by creator count, not hope.
- Every seeded unit needs an ASCI label, and a unit a creator keeps counts as a benefit for section 194R once the yearly total passes ₹20,000.
A good influencer launch runs in four phases: seed the product with a few creators four to six weeks out, tease for two weeks, put a burst of posts into one window on launch day, and keep follow-up reviews coming for a month. This post gives thirteen ideas across those phases, each with the creator type, format, purpose and a rough budget. It is the launch slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, and our product launch campaign service covers how we run the operations.
How much research your buyer does decides which ideas matter. An ₹8,999 appliance or a phone needs reviews and comparisons; a ₹199 snack needs sampling and a trail of friendly faces. Our pages on consumer electronics and D2C brands go deeper on those two cases. Budgets below use the ranges in our influencer rates guide, which are published asking prices, not quotes.
How to pick and sequence the thirteen ideas
| Phase | Timing | Ideas | Must achieve | Money weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seed | Weeks 6 to 3 before | 1 to 3 | Honest reactions, fixes, first content | Light |
| Tease | Weeks 3 to 0 | 4 to 6 | A waitlist and a reason to look on day zero | Light to medium |
| Launch window | Day 0 to 7 | 7 to 10 | Volume, proof, first sales | Heavy |
| After day one | Weeks 2 to 8 | 11 to 13 | Second look, retargeting, sales you can trace | Medium |
Four rules decide the mix:
- Choose at least one idea from every phase. A launch with only a window has no early feedback and nothing after day one.
- Put the weight in the window. Seeding and teasers are cheap by design.
- Match tier to job. Nano and micro creators carry trust and volume. One macro or celebrity face carries reach and should not be asked to explain a product that needs explaining; see micro versus macro.
- Book early. Creators with real audiences fill launch weeks, and a turnaround under 48 hours can add 25 to 40 percent.
Planning uplifts on top of fees: usage rights about +35 percent, 30-day exclusivity about +40 percent, and GST at 18 percent.
Phase 1: seed (weeks 6 to 3 before launch)
1. The honest-first-reaction round. Send the near-final unit to 30 nano and small micro creators with no script, only the claims sheet and a request for private feedback first. Who: nano creators in the product's niche. Format: a private voice note, then an optional Story. Gets you: the objection and the broken claim while you can still fix them, plus a stock of unscripted content. Budget: the unit plus ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 each on the nano Reel band, so ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh.
2. The maker visit. One or two micro creators visit the factory, lab, kitchen or design studio and film how the product is made. Who: micro creators whose audience likes process. Format: Reel plus Stories. Gets you: credibility before there is anything to buy. Budget: ₹30,000 to ₹80,000 a Reel on the micro band, so ₹60,000 to ₹1.6 lakh for two.
3. Name it or pick the colour. Ten micro creators run a Story poll on a real decision: a flavour name, a colour, which of two designs ships. Who: micro creators with chatty Story audiences. Format: Story polls and question stickers. Gets you: a decision backed by data, and an audience that already feels it owns the result. Budget: a Story set at ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 each, so ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh.
Phase 2: tease (weeks 3 to 0)
4. The waitlist Story. Twenty micro creators post "notify me" Stories with a link sticker to a waitlist that collects a WhatsApp number or email. Who: micro creators in your buyer's city mix. Format: Story set. Gets you: a list of people to message on launch day, measured per creator. Budget: ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 each, so ₹1 to ₹4 lakh. Our note on link sticker campaigns covers the set-up.
5. The mystery-reveal collab. A mid-tier creator and your brand account co-publish a Reel that shows only part of the product. Who: mid-tier creators with a loyal base. Format: an Instagram collab post, which shares one post and one set of numbers across both accounts; see collab posts for brands. Gets you: curiosity and a shared audience. Budget: a mid-tier post at ₹30,000 to ₹2 lakh; for three creators, ₹90,000 to ₹6 lakh.
6. The embargoed first look. Four reviewers get units early under a fixed lift time and all publish together. Who: YouTube and Instagram reviewers who test, not unbox. Format: a YouTube integration or a long Reel. Gets you: reasoned reviews on the morning buyers search. Budget: mid-tier integrations at ₹1 to ₹2 lakh each, so ₹4 to ₹8 lakh. Write the lift time into the contract.
Phase 3: the launch window (day 0 to 7)
7. The launch-hour wave. Forty micro creators post inside the same two-hour window, each with a link or code. Who: micro creators across your buyer segments. Format: Reel plus a Story set. Gets you: the feeling that the product is everywhere, and search interest you can see. Budget: ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a Reel, so ₹6 to ₹12 lakh.
8. One face for the launch film. A macro creator or well-known face fronts the main film. Who: a creator whose audience matches the buyer, not just the largest. Format: Reel or YouTube integration. Gets you: reach in hours. Budget: a macro Reel at ₹2 to ₹8 lakh or a macro YouTube integration at ₹2 to ₹6 lakh. See celebrity and macro creators.
9. The live launch. A gaming, tech or lifestyle creator hosts a live stream where viewers see the product used. Who: a mid-tier streamer with live-chat energy. Format: YouTube or Instagram live plus a Short cut-down. Gets you: questions answered in real time and clips for later. Budget: a mid-tier dedicated video band of ₹1 to ₹5 lakh.
10. Regional first impressions. Twenty regional-language creators post a 30-second first impression. Who: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali or other creators who match your launch cities. Format: Short or Reel. Gets you: buyers who ignored the English wave. Budget: ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 each, so ₹2 to ₹5 lakh; one published guide puts regional-language YouTube channels 40 to 60 percent below Hindi or English ones. See regional influencers.
Phase 4: after day one (weeks 2 to 8)
11. The seven-day follow-up. Thirty of the launch creators return after a week of use with an honest second take. Who: the same micro creators. Format: Story set or a short Reel. Gets you: a second look from people who saw the first one and did not buy. Budget: a Story set at ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 each, so ₹1.5 to ₹6 lakh.
12. Creator ads on the best posts. The three or four best Reels are run as partnership ads from the creators' handles. Who: the creators who already won. Format: partnership ads. Gets you: proven creative in front of lookalike buyers; 76.6 percent of surveyed brands have run partnership ads. Budget: a whitelisting premium of 60 to 120 percent over the organic fee in one published guide, plus media at two to four times the creator fee in the same guide. See creator ads and what whitelisting is.
13. Launch codes with a seven-day window. Each creator gets a code that expires after launch week. Who: every creator in phases 3 and 4. Format: code in caption, Story link and pinned comment. Gets you: sales you can trace and a way to rank creators for the next round. Budget: the discount itself, plus an optional bonus per redeemed code. See tracking sales with discount codes.

Disclosure, units and tax
Under the ASCI influencer guidelines, a free product is a material connection even if the creator did not ask for it, so every seeded post needs a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Free gift. It must be upfront: on the visual for a Story, and on screen for at least 3 seconds in a video of 15 seconds or less. The brand shares responsibility and must be able to back each claim, so the claims sheet is not optional. AI-generated product renders or synthetic presenters in teasers need a label under ASCI's September 2026 synthetic-content guideline, expected to apply from about mid-December 2026 (our arithmetic). Our ASCI guidelines explainer has the full rules.
A unit a creator keeps is a benefit valued at your purchase price, and 10 percent TDS under section 194R can apply once one creator's benefits pass ₹20,000 in a financial year, with exemptions for some small individual creators. A unit sent for a shoot and returned has no TDS in that summary. Keep a ledger per creator; see TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
How early should we start influencer marketing before a product launch?
Brief and ship units four to six weeks before launch day for a physical product, so creators have time to use it, shoot, and send drafts for approval. Teasers run in the last two weeks, and the main wave goes live on day zero. A rush turnaround under 48 hours can add 25 to 40 percent to a creator's fee.
How many influencers do we need for a product launch?
For a national consumer launch, 40 to 100 micro creators plus a few larger faces is a workable shape. Two documented Indian launches used 250 and 440 creators and reported roughly 47,000 to 61,000 views per creator. Our guide on how many influencers you need shows how to size it from your goal.
How much does an influencer campaign for a product launch cost in India?
Creator fees follow published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Add rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. Our influencer rates guide explains each line.
Should we send review units to influencers before launch?
Yes, if the product needs to be tried to be believed. Send units four to six weeks ahead, set an embargo time, and ask for a label on every post. A free unit is a material connection under ASCI's rules, even if unsolicited. See our seeding guide for the logistics.
Should a launch use one big influencer or many small ones?
Use many small creators for trust and volume, and one or two bigger faces only if you need reach in the first hours. A single big creator gives one opinion at one price, while 40 micro creators give 40 chances to find a message that works. Our micro versus macro guide compares them.
What should a launch brief for influencers contain?
A claims sheet of what creators may say and what they must not, the embargo time, the posting window, the label wording, the link or code, and approval deadlines. Add two or three must-show moments but no word-for-word script. Our campaign brief template lists every field.
