Travel influencer rates in India: the fee, the trip and the footage rights

Travel creators are priced in two currencies: a fee for the content and a trip that you pay for. This post prices the formats travel brands buy, shows when the stay costs more than the fee, and explains why footage rights are the line to read twice.

In short

  • Travel has no published niche multiplier, and one booking platform reports 2026 fee rises of only 5% to 15%. Standard tier rates apply, and the hosted trip is extra.
  • The stay can cost more than the fee. On 3 nights, hosting is 17% of a ₹35,000 fee at a hostel and 266% at a ₹25,000-a-night lodge (assumed rates).
  • Footage is the product for hotels and destinations. One guide prices perpetual use at +80% to 150% and reposts at +25% to 40%, so buy only the window you need.
  • In our hostel and workation example, ₹3.78 lakh of base fees becomes ₹8.15 lakh on the creator side, plus ₹65,550 of hosting at your variable cost.

Travel influencers charge the standard tier rate for content: about ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 per Reel at micro level, ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh at mid-tier, and ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh or ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh for a micro or mid-tier YouTube vlog. Travel carries no published niche premium. What makes a travel quote different is that a second bill follows the first, the trip itself, and that the footage a creator shoots is, in our experience, often worth more to a hotel or destination than the post it appears in.

For the tier tables, use our influencer marketing cost guide. For travel's place among the niches, see influencer fees by niche in India. This post starts at the trip and works outward to the fee. Property and destination planning sit in travel and hospitality influencer marketing, and the complete guide to influencer marketing in India covers the channel.

Six travel formats and what each buys

FormatWhat the brand buysPrice in our rate modelTrip needed
Destination vlog on YouTubeA film that ranks for searchesMicro ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh; mid-tier ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh2 to 5 nights
Itinerary Reel or carouselA day-by-day plan viewers saveReel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 at micro; carousel ₹5,000 to ₹50,000Yes
Hosted stay reviewOne property, from room to tableA Reel plus a Story set at micro level1 to 3 nights
Multi-day Story diaryProof of the trip as it happens₹5,000 to ₹20,000 per Story set at micro levelDuring the trip
Cinematic or drone filmFootage for your own channelsProduction from about ₹5,000 to several lakhYes, with permissions
Group or press tripSeveral creators on one itineraryEach creator priced separatelyShared logistics

Bundles matter here, because a creator already on site can shoot a Reel, a carousel and a Story set for one trip. One agency guide prices a Reel, post and Stories bundle at 1.6x to 2x a single Reel, and a booking platform puts the saving against buying items separately at 20% to 35%.

Two bills: the fee and the trip

Take one micro creator on a 3-night stay, with a ₹35,000 fee for a Reel (₹20,000) and a carousel (₹15,000). The hosting cost depends on what you sell. Room and meal rates below are our assumptions, so replace them with yours.

PropertyRoom rate a nightMeals and one activity a nightHosting at rack for 3 nightsHosting as a share of the fee
Hostel₹1,200₹800₹6,00017%
Boutique hotel₹6,500₹2,500₹27,00077%
Luxury lodge₹25,000₹6,000₹93,000266%

At a hostel the creator's fee is the budget and the stay is a rounding error. At a lodge the stay is the budget, and the fee is the smaller line. The same creator at the same price is a different decision.

Rack rate is the wrong figure for your own books and the right figure for the tax rules. If the room would have stayed empty, what you lose is the variable cost of the night: housekeeping, breakfast, utilities. A hostel bed you could not have sold costs you a few hundred rupees. For tax, the benefit is valued at fair market value, which on TaxGuru's summary of the CBDT FAQs is the selling price where the giver supplies the item (our reading for a room). The boutique-hotel creator in the table receives ₹27,000 of benefit in one trip, so 10% TDS under section 194R applies once that passes ₹20,000 in the year. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Companions multiply the second bill

Leisure travel sells through couples and families, and each companion adds meals and activities, sometimes a bigger room. Using the boutique hotel's assumed rates, with a family room at 1.5 times the standard rate:

Creator party, 3 nightsRooms and mealsHosting at rackShare of the ₹35,000 fee
Solo1 room, 1 person₹27,00077%
Couple1 room, 2 people₹34,50099%
Family of four1 family room, 4 people₹59,250169%

Cap the party size in the contract, and state which meals, activities and transfers are covered. A family creator can be worth the extra cost for a family resort and a waste for a hostel, so cast by what you sell before you cast by follower count.

Footage is the product: price the rights

A hotel or tour operator usually wants the best clips on its website, in its ads and on its own Instagram for months, and a creator's footage can be worth more than the post. Published cards put brand reposts at +25% to 40%, usage rights as a separate line at +30% to 50%, extra months at +20% to 50% each and perpetual use at +80% to 150%.

Rights bought for a ₹1,00,000 vlogPublished upliftTotal cost
Brand repost on your own handle+25% to 40%₹1,25,000 to ₹1,40,000
90 days of ad and website use+35%, our planning figure inside +30% to 50%₹1,35,000
Perpetual use+80% to 150%₹1,80,000 to ₹2,50,000

Buy the window you will use, and ask for an option to extend at a fixed rate. Our post on usage rights in influencer content shows how to write the period, the channels and the paid-ad clause.

Labels, honesty and permissions

A free stay is a material connection, so every post needs a clear label, and the Department of Consumer Affairs lists hotel stays among the connections endorsers must disclose, per PIB. The same guidance says endorsers should not promote what they have not used, so the creator must actually stay and eat. Label rules are in the ASCI influencer guidelines. Two costs to budget: permission for drones or commercial filming at monuments and wildlife areas where it is restricted, and keeping other guests out of frame.

Example: a four-property hostel and workation brand

LineBasisAmount
Workation diaries4 at ₹43,000 less 20% bundle discount (₹34,400 each)₹1,37,600
Nano Reels8 at ₹5,000₹40,000
YouTube vlog1 mid-tier at ₹2,00,000₹2,00,000
Base creator fees₹3,77,600
Usage rights, 90 days+35% on the 4 diaries and the vlog (₹3,37,600)₹1,18,160
30-day exclusivity against other hostels in the same towns+40% on the vlog₹80,000
Creator spend₹5,75,760
Management fee20%, inside the published 15% to 25%₹1,15,152
GST18% on creator spend and fee₹1,24,364
Creator-side cost₹8,15,276

Hosting is the second bill: 57 room-nights (28 for the diaries, 24 for the nano creators, 5 for the vlogger). At an assumed ₹450 variable cost a night plus ₹700 of meals and activities, hosting costs ₹65,550, or 8% of the creator-side cost. Valued at an assumed ₹1,400 rack rate it is ₹1,19,700, or 15%. At a ₹25,000-a-night lodge the same 57 nights would be ₹14.25 lakh at rack, about 1.7 times the creator-side cost, which is why the hostel and the lodge need different plans.

No creator crosses the ₹20,000 benefit line from the stay alone: the diary creators receive ₹14,700 of room and meals each at rack, the vlogger ₹10,500 and the nano creators ₹6,300. Not included: ad media, and flights, which would change that. Track benefits per creator across the year if you host them more than once.

Costing your own trip plan

Food and travel creators share the lowest fee-rise band, and the food version of this arithmetic is in food influencer rates in India. Frequently asked questions

How much do travel influencers charge in India?

Asking prices per Reel run from about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 at nano level, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 at micro level and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh at mid-tier. A dedicated YouTube vlog runs ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh at micro level and ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh at mid-tier. Travel has no published niche premium, and the hosted trip is extra. See influencer rates in India.

Who pays for the creator's trip?

The brand does, as a separate line from the fee, unless a creator agrees a trip-only barter deal. Hotels usually host rooms, meals and an activity. Destination and tour brands may also cover flights and transfers. Agree in writing what is covered and for how many people. See our barter collaboration guide.

How much does it cost to host a travel creator?

It depends on the property. In our assumed example a micro creator on a 3-night stay costs a hostel ₹6,000, a boutique hotel ₹27,000 and a luxury lodge ₹93,000 at rack rates with meals, against a ₹35,000 fee. Count what the nights would otherwise earn you. See influencer marketing for hotels and resorts.

Is a hosted stay taxable for the creator?

A hosted stay, meals and flights are benefits in kind. Under section 194R, brands generally deduct 10% TDS once benefits to one person pass ₹20,000 in a financial year, valued at fair market value. A two-night stay with meals can pass that in one trip. Ask your CA, and note GST on barter is unsettled. See TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments.

How long should usage rights for travel footage run?

Buy the window you will use. One agency guide puts brand reposts at +25% to 40%, usage rights as a separate line at +30% to 50% and perpetual usage at +80% to 150%. A hotel that wants footage on its site for a year should price that explicitly, not assume it. See usage rights in influencer content.

Do travel creators cost less in the off-season?

No published source prices seasonality in creator fees. The saving is on your side: hosting a creator on nights that would stay empty costs your variable cost, not the rack rate, and shoulder-season content can fill later slots. Plan stays with your revenue manager. See travel and hospitality influencer marketing.
