In short
- International Women's Day is 8 March: a Sunday in 2026, a Monday in 2027. In 2027 it falls in Ramadan's last days, two weeks before Holi.
- Run a tokenism test before casting: does the product matter to the women shown, does the brand act all year, and does the creator write her own script?
- ASCI's gender stereotype guidelines (8 June 2022) say humour does not cure a stereotype. Put them in the brief, because the brand answers for the post.
- A three-week series from eight to twelve micro creators beats one day of posts. In our example it costs about ₹13 to 14 lakh before GST.
A Women's Day influencer campaign works when a brand has something real to say to the women it already serves, and fails when the date is the only reason to speak. The test is simple: remove the logo and the hashtag, and ask whether the post would still be useful to a woman watching it. This post is the Women's Day slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, with twelve ideas, a tokenism test, a countdown to 8 March 2027, budgets and the stereotype rules that apply.
It sits in the busiest six weeks of the festival marketing calendar for influencers, so the planning section below is built around Ramadan, Holi and cricket rather than around the date alone.
When Women's Day falls
International Women's Day is 8 March, a fixed date, according to the United Nations, whose 2026 theme was "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls." The UN page gives no 2027 theme yet.
| Year | Day | What surrounds it |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Sunday 8 March | Holi had been four days earlier, on 4 March |
| 2027 | Monday 8 March | Maha Shivratri on Saturday 6 March; Ramadan expected to end 10 March, Eid al-Fitr likely 11 March; cricket season tentatively from about 10 March; Holi on 22 March |
Sources are Drik Panchang for Shivratri, Wego for Ramadan, which is subject to moon sighting, and Wisden for the tentative cricket dates. A Monday is a working day, which suits LinkedIn and office-hours scrolling. Our posts on Eid and Ramadan, cricket season and Holi cover the neighbours.
What audiences do online around 8 March
In our experience the feed fills with quote cards, "strong woman" montages and "Women's Day offers" from nine in the morning, and audiences scroll past most of them. Comment sections turn sceptical. A creator whose post reads like an ad for a discount is asked who is paying her, and whether the brand pays its own women equally.
The posts that get saved are resources: a money explainer, a skills tutorial, a real day at work. Women creators also receive near-identical Women's Day briefs in the same fortnight, and some decline them as policy, so brief early.
The tokenism test
Run this before you cast anyone. It takes ten minutes and prevents most of the damage.
| Question | Passes | Fails |
|---|---|---|
| Does the product matter to the women shown? | They use it or work with it | A pink version of the same product |
| Does the brand do something real for women the rest of the year? | A hiring, pay, product or support commitment the post can name | A one-day pledge or donation |
| Does the creator write her own script? | She chooses the story and the words | A brand script with her face on it |
| Is she paid fairly and on time? | Fee agreed before the brief, on the same rate card as peers, paid on contract terms | "Exposure", or a big ask for a small product |
| Would the post survive without the offer? | Yes | The hook is "celebrate with 30 percent off" |
If three of the five fail, do not post on 8 March. Build a year-round programme instead, and treat the date as a chapter in it.
What ASCI's stereotype guidelines mean for the brief
ASCI released its guidelines on harmful gender stereotypes on 8 June 2022 as an interpretation of Chapter III of its code. A creator post with a material connection is an advertisement under ASCI's influencer guidelines, so in our reading these rules reach sponsored creator content, and the brand shares responsibility for it. The document says:
- Advertisements must not include stereotypes likely to cause harm or serious or widespread offence.
- A woman cleaning the house is allowed, but the advertisement must not suggest that such a role is always uniquely associated with one gender, the only option, or never done by another.
- Humour or banter is not likely to overcome the underlying issue.
- A woman must not be shown as solely responsible for household duties while others relax, and no one should be shown as unable to do a task because of their gender.
- Advertisements must not suggest that happiness depends on an idealised body, or that someone's looks, such as skin tone or weight, explain why they fail at work or in love.
- Sexual objectification irrelevant to the product is out, and gender identity or orientation must not be mocked, even as humour.
The guidelines do not stop you showing glamorous people, one gender only, or a stereotype in order to challenge it. Copy these lines into your campaign brief.
Twelve Women's Day campaign ideas
| # | Idea | Creators | Format | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A working day, unscripted | Women in trades and technical jobs: electricians, mechanics, pilots, lab staff | Day-in-the-life Reel, YouTube vlog | Pay for the creator's time; no "surprising for a woman" framing |
| 2 | The tool she actually uses | Women who use your product to work: bakers, tailors, tutors, photographers | Tutorial Reel, carousel | Thirty days of real use, not one shot |
| 3 | First investments, plainly | Women finance educators | Explainer Reel, YouTube | SEBI and ASCI qualification rules; see finfluencer rules |
| 4 | Health without hype | Women doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists | Q&A Reel, live | Qualifications upfront; see health influencer rules |
| 5 | Who does the dishes | Couples and parent creators | Split-screen skit | The ASCI rule on who carries the household work |
| 6 | Women-owned small businesses | Home bakers, artisans, sellers; local creators visit | Store-tour Reel, Collab post | Pay or credit the owner; see marketplace sellers |
| 7 | Training diaries | Grassroots coaches, runners, cyclists | Diary Reel, Stories | No body-shaming; real training load |
| 8 | Travelling alone, practically | Solo-travel creators | Reel, saved carousel | Facts and tips, not fear |
| 9 | Behind the product | Women on your factory floor, farms or design team, interviewed by a creator | Short film | Consent; their pay and hours must stand scrutiny |
| 10 | Letters to my younger self | Women creators aged 25 to 65 | Talking-head Reel, podcast clip | Logo small; no sales pitch |
| 11 | Men who carry their share | Fathers, brothers and male creators | Reel | Avoid "helping her"; say "doing it" |
| 12 | The series, not the day | Eight to twelve micro creators over three weeks | Weekly series, Stories | The whole plan below |
Ideas 6 and 12 are the two most brands underbuy. Spotlighting a small business gives a brand something to do, not just say, and a series gives each creator room for a real story. Idea 9 carries the most risk, because it invites scrutiny of your own workplace.
How to cast without tokenism
- Cast by relevance first. A woman who bakes for a living is a better voice for an oven than a lifestyle name who has never used one. Check the audience, not just the gender; see how to read audience insights.
- Vary the cast. Include different ages, skin tones, body types, languages and cities, including tier 2 and 3 towns. Our regional influencer marketing team casts by language.
- Pay the same for the same work. Fix one fee per tier and deliverable, and publish it internally. See payment terms for influencers.
- Let creators decline. Some will not do a Women's Day post. Their no is information.
- Give a claims sheet, not a script. She writes the story; you supply the facts you can prove.
A countdown to Women's Day 2027
| Date (2027) | Weeks to 8 March | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Mon 11 Jan | 8 | Audit what the brand does for women all year; brief and budget agreed |
| Mon 18 Jan | 7 | Creators shortlisted and booked; Republic Day on 26 January sits ahead |
| Mon 1 Feb | 5 | Contracts signed; kits shipped |
| Mon 8 Feb | 4 | Drafts and claims approved; Ramadan expected from 9 February, so fasting creators shoot before it |
| Mon 15 Feb | 3 | Series, week 1 live |
| Mon 22 Feb | 2 | Series, week 2 live |
| Mon 1 Mar | 1 | Week 3 live; creator ads on the best Reels |
| Mon 8 Mar | 0 | Stories and one finale Reel from creators who choose to post; the brand posts proof of what it did, not a quote card |
| Mon 15 Mar | after | Report; Eid on about 11 March means a quiet week in between |
Budget notes
Use the ranges in our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000, a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh and a micro YouTube dedicated video ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh. Doctors and finance educators price on expertise, and published guides put finance and tech creators at 1.3 to 2 times lifestyle rates.
Ask for a series price. Add about 35 percent for usage rights in our plans; published guides say 30 days of exclusivity adds 30 to 50 percent, which you need only if a competitor is running the same date. Management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks, and a turnaround under 48 hours adds 25 to 40 percent. Test the mix in our cost calculator.
What to measure
Count saves and shares, since a Women's Day post that works is a resource people keep. Read the first hundred comments on every post and log the sceptical ones. Track orders or sign-ups by code across the three weeks, not only the day, and add one internal measure: was every creator paid on time at the agreed rate? Our guide to measuring influencer marketing ROI covers the baseline.
Sensitivities and things to avoid
- Do not announce that you "empower" women. Show what you did and let them say whether it helped.
- Do not set groups against each other. Working women versus homemakers is a trap.
- Do not sell slimming, skin-lightening or body-correction products around the date. The ASCI guidance on body ideals makes them the riskiest category.
- Handle violence and harassment only with a partner. Work with an NGO or helpline, state its role and never trivialise. See influencer marketing for NGOs and social causes and our cause marketing playbook.
- Respect fasting. In 2027 the date falls in Ramadan, so avoid iftar-time shoots and food-heavy briefs for creators who observe.
- Do not mock anyone's gender identity or orientation. The ASCI document rules it out even as humour.
Disclosure, labels and tax
Under the ASCI influencer guidelines, money, free products, gifts and barter are a material connection, and the label must be upfront and prominent. A Story needs it on the visual, a Reel of 15 seconds or less needs it on screen for at least 3 seconds, and permitted labels include Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration and Free gift. Brand and creator share responsibility. Our disclosure line templates give wording.
Under ASCI's Addendum II, a creator who gives advice on stocks or investments needs SEBI registration with the number shown, and technical health advice needs relevant qualifications stated upfront; generic content does not. Gifts a creator keeps count towards the ₹20,000 yearly threshold for 10 percent TDS under section 194R; see TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
When is Women's Day in 2027?
International Women's Day is on 8 March every year. In 2027 it is a Monday, and in 2026 it was a Sunday. Ramadan is expected to end on 10 March 2027, Holi falls on 22 March and the cricket season is tentatively set to open around 10 March, so book creators early. See our festival calendar.
How far ahead should we plan a Women's Day influencer campaign?
Eight weeks. Brief and budget on Monday 11 January 2027, book creators by 18 January, approve drafts by 8 February and go live from 15 February. A series needs more lead time than a one-day post because several creators must shoot real material, and some will be fasting from about 9 February.
How do we avoid tokenism in a Women's Day campaign?
Apply five tests: the product matters to the women shown, the brand does something real for them all year, the creator writes her own script, she is paid fairly and on time, and the post works without a discount. If three tests fail, build a year-round programme instead of posting on 8 March. Our micro-influencer service runs such programmes.
Do ASCI's gender stereotype rules apply to influencer posts?
ASCI's guidelines on harmful gender stereotypes interpret Chapter III of its code. A creator post with a material connection is an advertisement under ASCI's influencer guidelines, so in our reading the stereotype guidance applies, and the brand shares responsibility. Read the ASCI influencer guidelines explained before you write the brief.
Which creators suit a Women's Day campaign?
Women who use or make the thing you sell: coaches, tradespeople, home businesses, educators and professionals, mostly at micro level, plus men who share household work for the 'who does the dishes' idea. Cast across age, language and city, not only metro lifestyle names. See how to find regional language creators.
How much does a Women's Day influencer campaign cost?
Published rates put a nano Reel at about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel at ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 and a mid-tier Reel at ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Add usage rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. Our influencer rates guide has the full table.
Should a Women's Day campaign include a discount?
Usually not. A discount turns a message into a sale and invites the question of why the offer only lasts a day. If the product needs an offer, give it to a cause or a group the campaign serves, state the amount and the cap, and keep any code separate from the creator's story.
