In short
- Live earns its cost when answers matter in real time: launches, questions and moments. For everything else, a recorded video travels further for less.
- Plan a live like a broadcast: a run of show, a producer, a moderator and a claims sheet, because a mistake on air cannot be edited.
- ASCI expects the connection to be announced at the start and the end of a live stream, so write the disclosure into the run of show.
- Our example gaming-accessory launch, a lead stream, six co-streams, teasers and clips, costs about ₹7.1 to ₹7.6 lakh including prizes.
A live session influencer campaign puts a creator in front of an audience in real time with your brand on the agenda: a product reveal, a question hour, a workshop, a watch-along. It earns its cost when the answer to a viewer's question matters now, which is why launches, Q&As and moments suit it better than steady awareness. This post gives thirteen live ideas, each with creator type, platform, what it achieves and a budget, plus a run of show and the rules a live needs. It goes one level deeper than our guide to influencer marketing in India and builds on YouTube influencer marketing and the gaming and esports industry page, where live is the native format.
No published rate card prices live sessions, so budgets use the creator's dedicated-video fee on the same platform as a planning proxy, from our influencer rates guide: ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh for micro creators. That is our assumption, not a quoted market rate. GST at 18 percent, usage rights (about 35 percent in our planning) and management fees (published benchmarks suggest 15 to 25 percent of creator spend) are extra.
When live beats recorded
| Live is stronger when | Recorded is stronger when |
|---|---|
| Viewers have questions you can answer on the spot | The message needs one clean take and an edit |
| The moment is dated: a launch, a match, a sale hour | The content should keep working for months |
| Trust comes from seeing a person respond unscripted | Claims need legal review before they are said |
| You want a crowd in one place at one time | You want reach beyond the creator's current audience |
Live also produces recorded content. The best moments become clips, which is idea 13 below.

Events and moments (ideas 9 to 13)
| # | Idea | Creator and platform | What it achieves | Rough budget |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | Match-day watch-along. Sports creators comment on a match live, with your product as the sponsor. | Three micro sports creators; YouTube Live | Fans in the same moment; see IPL season marketing | 3 at ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh: ₹60,000 to ₹3.6 lakh |

| 13 | Clips from the live. Cut six short videos from the stream for ads and product pages. | The creators involved; Shorts or Reels | Reusable proof from a one-off event | 6 clips at ₹8,000 to ₹40,000: ₹48,000 to ₹2.4 lakh |
Choose creators who can host
Hosting live is a different skill from editing a good Reel. Before you book, watch the creator's last three lives in full. Look at how they handle a hostile comment, a silence and a technical failure, and whether they keep a conversation going without a script. Ask for average concurrent viewers across their last five lives, not follower count, because followers say little about who turns up at a set time. A smaller creator who hosts well will beat a bigger one who reads from notes.
Promote it for a week
Lives rarely fill from a standing start, so schedule the promotion as carefully as the session.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Seven days before | The creator and your account both announce the date and time; set a reminder link |
| Three days before | A question box in Stories and a short teaser of the demonstration |
| The day before | A reminder with the exact time; a technical check with the creator |
| One hour before | Both accounts post "going live in an hour" |
| During | A pinned comment with the label and the terms; the brand shares the live to its Stories |
| Within 48 hours | Clips cut and posted; a thank-you with a reminder of the offer |
Run of show for a sixty-minute live
A live without a plan drifts. Write the run of show, and give one person the job of keeping time.
| Time | What happens | Who |
|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes before | Connection, audio and lighting test; backup phone ready; moderator in place | Producer |
| 0 to 5 | Greeting; the creator states the connection with your brand; overlay label on screen | Creator |
| 5 to 20 | The demonstration, with the claims sheet to hand | Creator and brand guest |
| 20 to 50 | Questions from the chat and from questions submitted earlier | Creator, with the moderator |
| 50 to 55 | The offer, the link or code, and any prize rules | Creator |
| 55 to 60 | Thanks, and a closing statement of the connection with your brand | Creator |
Give the creator the questions you expect and the right answers, not a script. Ask them to collect questions from their audience in advance. Pin a comment that repeats the label and the terms of any offer.
What goes wrong live, and the controls
Nobody can edit a mistake on air, so the controls come before the live.
- Unsupported claims. Give the creator and moderator one claims sheet: what may be said, what may not. For health and finance, only qualified guests, with credentials on screen.
- Abusive or off-topic chat. A moderator with the power to hide comments and remove users, and filters set for the usual abuse.
- Betting and banned categories. ASCI's 2025-26 report found illegal betting made up 54 percent of influencer violations. Never accept a co-host, sponsor or on-screen link tied to betting, and be especially careful in sports watch-alongs.
- Technical failure. A backup phone and mobile data, plus a plan to restart and tell viewers what happened.
- Giveaways. Publish simple rules; see Instagram giveaways.
- Music. Tracks played on a live carry the same licensing limits as any brand content; see music copyright.
Labels on live
ASCI's influencer guidelines say that for live streams the connection to the brand must be announced at the start and at the end. For audio, announce at the start, at the end and around any breaks. Use an on-screen label (Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Partnership) and a pinned comment as well. Responsibility is shared: the creator makes the disclosure, and you must make sure the live conforms. If the live is recorded and reposted, apply the label rules for video of that length: for a video of two minutes or more, the label must run for the whole section that mentions the brand. This is general information, not legal advice.
One launch on public record (not our work)
For NESCAFE's cold coffee launch tied to Minecraft in 2025, exchange4media reported one Minecraft streamer plus 27 other Minecraft streamers. The lead streamer's launch stream drew 1.2 million views and 6.6 million impressions over a weekend. Views and impressions are different counts, and these are reported by trade press, not audited. The pattern worth copying is one anchor stream with many smaller streams around it. It is the shape of idea 2 above.
Next steps
A live works best as the high point of a longer plan. Run a challenge to build the audience and a live final to close it, or follow a takeover with a live Q&A. Frequently asked questions
What is a live session influencer campaign?
It is a campaign in which a creator goes live on Instagram, YouTube or another platform with your brand: a launch reveal, a question hour, a workshop, a watch-along. The audience can ask and react in real time. It suits moments and conversations, not slow-burn awareness. See our Instagram influencer marketing service for how we plan formats.
How much does a live session campaign cost?
No published rate card prices live sessions, so we use the creator's dedicated-video fee as a planning proxy: ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh for a micro creator and ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh for a mid-tier one, adjusted for length. Add rights if you reuse the recording, plus GST at 18 percent. See the influencer rates guide.
How is a live session different from live commerce?
A live session is about attention and conversation: a launch, a Q&A, a workshop. Live commerce is built to sell during the stream with shopping tools and offers. Many brands run a live session first and add selling later. Our guide to live commerce in India covers what has and has not worked there.
Does a live stream need an ASCI disclosure?
Yes. ASCI says live streams must announce the connection to the brand at the start and the end, and audio content at the start, the end and around breaks. Add an on-screen label and a pinned comment as well. The label can be Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Partnership. See influencer disclosure hashtags.
How do you get people to turn up to a live?
Announce it five to seven days ahead, put the time in Stories with a reminder, collect questions in advance, and have the creator and your account both mention it on the day. Lives rarely fill from a standing start. Our note on Instagram Stories and Reels for brands shows how to use each for the countdown.
What can go wrong in a live and how do we limit it?
The main risks are an unsupported claim, abusive chat, a technical failure and a sponsor clash. Limit them with a claims sheet the creator and moderator both hold, a moderator with the power to hide comments, a backup phone and connection, and a short list of topics that are off limits. Our guide to influencer crisis management covers a live gone wrong.
